Stevenage Half Marathon

What better way to celebrate my birthday weekend than a half marathon! It was another close by event, taking place near why I work in Stevenage. Ben and I had both competed in it last year and set PB's so I was hopeful the same could be done again!

It is a 2 lap event (which I'm not a big fan of), through Fairlands Valley park, which is nice venue for running. I was not alone, as Dan Barrett was also running and trying to go sub 1hr 30, which is pretty daunting as it requires 6 min 40ish miles - thats quick!

We both set off together but Dan was 10 metres ahead after running 100m! I completed the first mile in 6mins 40, which was probably too fast for me but thought that I could probably sustain 7 minute miles. Half way round I was feeling pretty good and the thought of my parents, Andy, Tilly and Claire at around the 11 mile marker really spurred me on. As I approached my support crew, I got a sudden burst of speed, it was really strange I didn't try and run faster it just happened! It gave me a real boost seeing them. But as soon as I was round the corner my legs felt completely drained after the burst of speed!

I reached Riddlins race track at 1hr 32 mins and pushed for home. I crossed the line with a time of 1hr 34 mins, beating my PB by 3 minutes - very chuffed : )

Dan ran a brilliant race, running 1hr 27 mins.
