With a little over 4 months to go, training has begun really stepping up. This week has seen us make a significant change in our training - the move to early morning runs instead of our cushy evening jogs! Like most people Ben and I are not particularly good at those early starts to put it mildly!
At the start of the week I was very optimistic thinking that we would have at least have some of the run in daylight and maybe even see a nice sunrise if we were lucky. The first morning run on Tuesday didn't get off to a great start after turning off the alarm and falling straight back to sleep again! Fortunately I've got a wonderfully caring girlfriend who did hear the alarm and kicked me straight of bed as soon as she realised I wasn't conscious!
Ben and I met at 06:25 at our usual meeting place (opposite the White Hart pub, Welwyn, UK). We had decided to keep things simple and stick to our old favourite the Knightsfield loop, which is a 5.5 mile run. It became apparent very quickly that it wasn't going to be light before we got home, mainly due to it still being pitch black, with some fog and rain for good measure! We have found we're a minute or two slower at the moment but I'm sure that will change, once we're used to the change in running times.
So it sounds horrible I know but actually I think its going to work out really well, as by lunch time I'm fully recovered for a gym session and then the evening can be spent on other things, for now at least.
We have to be strict tomorrow and not run, just a gentle gym session before Saturday's long run to Hertford and back.
