21 miles training run

First thing Saturday morning we headed out on a 21 mile run to Hertford from Welwyn. It was a very cold start to the day and I wore a hat and gloves all morning!

For the past 6 weeks we have been carrying hydration back packs and some essentials (phone, money, GPS, energy bar, house key!) to add some weight. Our back packs are weighing approximately 5 kgs at the moment, with the heavest item being the 2 ltr water resveroir that we start out with. Over the next few months we'll be gradually increasing the weight and will revert to our MdS race bag.

Our route headed out of the village, into Welwyn Garden City, through Panshanger and out on to the Cole Green Way towards Hertford. We were both carrying Garmin's and we decided to turn round at 10.7 miles at the scenic A10 flyover!

The first 10 miles always seem so easy, no aches and pains and clocking an easy 8-8.5 minute miles but as soon as we start going over 15 things start to hurt! Neither of us ate anything on the run and I was feeling pretty low energy level wise, I'll have to have more calories for breakfast next time!

We completed 21 miles in 2hrs 52mins, which we were really pleased with and should put us in good stead for Sunday's Luton Marathon.
