Trying to find those higher temperatures!

Since the New Year, we have been trying to wear extra layers of clothing, whist running in a bid to try and simulate a desert sweat! However the outdoor running in January just isn't cutting it, so I've been spending quite a bit of time at my gym.....

The downstairs of my gym has a nice 25m pool, which I often use especially if I'm feeling a bit injured (a bit recently) or training for triathlons. Around the pool are a number of treadmills and bikes, so the combination of the relatively hot ambient temperatures and fairly high humidity from the pool, means it's turning out to be the ideal place to replicate running in a hot environment. Today the temperature dial was on 33°, which is probably warmer than any day in the UK during 2007!

The first time I tried it, I didn't last much more than 10 minutes but that may have been due to the treadmill ticking over at 9mph! I've managed to build up the time and I am now comfortably managing 30 mins averaging nearer 6-7 mph. The next step is to do longer runs with my MdS running gear on but that's got to wait until February.

Will post again tomorrow, with news of a race coming up at the weekend.
